ABOUT

JOHN

John is a counselling psychologist, educator and researcher who is actively involved in research activities in the field of psychology and social sciences. John is licensed and registered with the Board of Counsellors, Malaysia (“LKM”) since 2018. He has previously worked in a drug rehabilitation centre and experienced working with a range of diverse populations that include adolescents, individuals struggling with addictions (substance and process, including sexual addiction), stress, anxiety, depression and a host of other mental health concerns.

He practices an integrated approach that mainly involves psychoanalytical (depth psychology) and Adlerian worldviews, with a variety of tools adopted from other theories. While practicing as a professional counsellor, John is now pursuing his PhD at the University of Malaya.

His area of interest include addiction counselling (process and substance), sexuality and sexual orientation. He is also experienced with issues related to adolescence, young adults and career exploration, and uses a combination of Holland and Big Five personality inventories to assist the client in developing a deeper self-understanding which may lead to effective behavioural transformation.

To him, counselling is all about growth in self-awareness, leading to a more holistic experience of life.
