ABOUT

Cheryl

Cheryl is currently pursuing her Masters in Professional Counselling at Monash University.

Cheryl has 50 years of life experience wearing multiple hats as a wife, daughter, sister, and mother of 2 girls. Professionally, she has been working in the corporate sector as a human resources and development specialist for the past 30 years before deciding to expand her skills into counselling. This is in line with her passion in helping people help themselves, find and achieve what they want or need.

During her practicum, Cheryl has had exposure dealing with stress, anxiety, depression due to work related issues such as difficult relationships with bosses, peers or staff; personal relationship issues such as break-ups, infidelity, disharmony among friends and family; and other personal challenges such as constant worrying/rumination, feeling lost/empty, fear of being alone/left out/behind in life or just generally wanting to improve the quality of life etc.

Cheryl uses an integrative approach to help clients, with Client Centered as the core and integrating other approaches such as Reality Therapy (RT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) depending on the unique needs of each clients. She believes in life-long learning, discovery and the power of choices where life’s events/incidences and the choices one makes determines the next path for themselves. In the words of Kathy Buckley “if you make a wrong choice, you can always make another choice to make it right.” Always hopeful and respectful, she believes her role is to help clients discover and understand “the whys” behind their thoughts, feeling and behaviors, find the strength unique to them to help them make informed choices that leads them to where they want/need to be, be it acceptance or change.
